Murder on the Orient Express at Hagers X Games

Hagerstown, MD

Review of Murder on the Orient Express

The description for this room reads "You and your team have been transported back to the golden age of travel, where you find yourselves on the luxurious and mysterious Midnight Express train. A murder has been committed on board, and you have 60 minutes to solve the crime and identify the killer before the train reaches its final destination."

We were super excited to do this room because we had all been involved in the production of this show with the Wayne Theatre in October 2023.  This room ended up being a major let down.

There was no intro video to start the game off or even really any set up from the game master.  During the game, there were times when we needed to use excessive force to open something.  There was even a note telling us to pull a drawer hard and it would open.  If you've ever played an escape room before, you know that you should never have to use excessive force.

We used some hints in this room and had a little difficulty reading it a few times due to the fact that the tv was framed.  The frame cut off some of the words if the game master typed out a longer hint.  The other tv's in the room had modern day trains/modern day people in the videos.  It didn't help you feel immersed in the "golden age of travel" at all.

Once we escaped, the game master didn't even ask if we wanted a picture in the room or even in the lobby.  (That's why this picture is from dinner after the escape room)

Overall this whole room felt really thrown together and wasn't a great experience for us.
